Hopkinsville firefighters, police officers and recreation staffers will usher Santa Claus around town beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, for the third annual Santa Claus is Coming to Hoptown.
The event inspired by the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 — when many families couldn’t get out and about with their children — is now a Hopkinsville tradition.
Through some kind of magic that only Santa Claus could muster, he’ll be covering three routes simultaneously in fire trucks so children can come streetside at their homes to see him.
“Santa’s visit comes with a popular twist this year as Santa caravans can be tracked live on GPS that will be displayed at hoptownrec.com …,” Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tab Brockman said in a press release.
The GPS tracking with turn-by-turn listings will allow residents to track Santa’s route through town.
Police officers following Santa will hand out children’s books while supplies last. The books are courtesy of the Hopkinsville-Christian County Library’s Imagination Library and the Christian County Public Schools School Readiness program.
