Robert Martin, the chief financial officer for the city of Hopkinsville, recently receive the Kentucky Government Finance Officers Association’s first Outstanding Achievement Award.
Martin has been a member of the association for nearly 20 years and contributed “countless hours of his time and knowledge” to the group, according to a press release from the association.

A certified public accountant, Martin has been the city’s CFO since 2003. He previously worked for International Paper as an accounting supervisor and he was a partner in the Kem and Martin accounting firm.
“It brings me great pleasure to honor Robert Martin with the KGFOA 2022 Outstanding Achievement Award,” said the association’s president, Angela Waninger.
She said Martin helped make the organization what it is today. He is a former president and currently serves as treasurer of the association.
In addition to his role as CFO, Martin served for several years on the Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County’s governing board. He also portrays Santa Claus when the Hopkinsville Fire Department makes its rounds through the city to visit local children — a tradition that began during the COVID-19 pandemic.
