Campanile performing ‘Something Rotten!’ at the Alhambra

The musical comedy follows the story of two brothers, contemporaries of William Shakespeare who believe they must compete with the great bard for literary fame.

Hopkinsville’s community theater group, Campanile Productions, is performing the musical comedy “Something Rotten!” Thursday through Sunday at the Alhambra Theatre.

A small audience present for a dress rehearsal Tuesday evening gave their enthusiastic approval to the performers with frequent applause and outbursts of laughter.

The show follows the story of two brothers who are contemporaries of William Shakespeare and believe they must compete with the great bard for literary fame.  Things get interesting when the brothers take creative cues from a wacky version of Nostradamus.

In a Facebook post, Campanile offers this warning for parents who might be thinking of bringing their children to the show: “If ‘Something Rotten’ were a movie, it would definitely be PG-13. You have to make your own judgment, because of the crude humor and sexual innuendo (which we believe will just go over the heads of younger kids).”

Evening performances will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The Sunday matinee is at 2:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online
