The White House announced that President Biden will travel to Western Kentucky on Wednesday to visit communities reeling from the weekend tornado outbreak. Although specific times have not been released, Biden is expected to arrive at Fort Campbell for a briefing and then travel to Mayfield and Dawson Springs to survey the damages in those communities.
Biden said he met Monday with Homeland Security and FEMA officials who had already visited some of the areas with the most serious storm damage in Kentucky.
“I asked for a detailed briefing on what they were able to see, what they found,” Biden said.
They president said they discussed ways to “accelerate and expand federal assistance to those in desperate need.”
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said Monday that 74 Kentuckians died in the storms. In addition, 109 Kentuckians are unaccounted for, so officials believe the death toll will increase.
