School administrator Barrett receives state award

Melanie Barrett was named Kentucky Pupil Personnel Director of the Year.

Melanie A. Barrett, the director of pupil personnel for Christian County Public Schools, has been named the Kentucky Pupil Personnel Director of the Year, a district official said in a news release

Barrett has worked for the local school district for 23 years. She is a former assistant principal at Christian County High School.

As director of pupil personnel, she “was instrumental in the start-up of the district’s online registration, Virtual Learning Academy, and district truancy conferences, and she is known as an expert at conflict resolution and meets with over 800 parents per school year,” the release states.

Barrett said the award would not have been possible without the help of the employees in her office and others in the district.

“Ms. Barrett is a much respected leader statewide and she reflects the foundation of our district — service above self and the love and education of our students,” Superintendent Chris Bentzel said.
