A Hopkinsville woman is asking area residents to gather at 7 tonight at the Christian County Justice Center for a peaceful memorial honoring the life of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Similar gatherings are planned across the country.
“I really want to honor her,” said Leigh Ann Brown. “She dedicated her life to fighting for people in the margins.”
Ginsburg died Friday of cancer. She was 87. She served 27 years on the country’s highest court and had been recognized as a leader in the fight for women’s equality going back to the 1970s.
The memorial will include a moment of silence and candle-lighting. Brown said she’s planning to have some speak briefly about Ginsburg.
Brown, 41, has lived in Hopkinsville for 12 years and works for the community college at its Fort Campbell campus. She and her husband, Byron, are former resident ambassadors of the Challenge House on Bryan Street.
