As the number of Christian countians who test positive and then recover from COVID-19 continues to increase, the county has an nearly equal number of active and recovered cases.
The county had 37 active and 33 recovered cases as of Tuesday, according to figures tracked by the Christian County Health Department.
In addition, three people died last week from COVID-19 complications at Jennie Stuart Medical Center.
The number of local active cases by age group are:
- Pediatric (0-21): 0
- Young Adult-Middle Age (22-59): 21
- Older Adult (60-84): 15
- Elderly (85+): 1
Jennie Stuart was treating six patients for COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the highly contagious coronavirus, hospital vice president Beth McCraw said Tuesday during the health department’s twice-weekly teleconference with local news media.
Four of the patients had a confirmed test, and two had a test result pending.
Additionally, the hospital has treated and discharged four patients, said McCraw.
At Western State Hospital, the site of a COVID-19 hotspot, the number of cases stood at 32 on Tuesday, Gov. Andy Beshear said. That includes 13 patients and 19 staff members. Two deaths have come out of Western State.
“There are a lot of asymptomatic people out there,” Beshear said.
The risk with asymptomatic people is that they can spread the virus to others who will become ill.
The state ordered 139 tests at Western State, and the results are expected by mid-week.
