7 ways to kick summer into gear in Hopkinsville

The June calendar is packed with activities ranging from goat yoga to Hoppers' ballgames and a Beatles tribute concert.

Several community events geared toward warmer days — and spending evenings with friends — are slated in June. So in the spirit of acknowledging that there’s plenty to do in Hopkinsville, here are seven suggested activities to get your summer going.

Make a garden apron

The Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library, 1101 Bethel St., will provide instruction and materials to make a garden apron. The class for age 13 and older will meet two consecutive days — 9:30 a.m. to noon June 6 and 7. Register in advance by calling the library at 270-887-4262.

Chill out

Hopkinsville Brewing Co., 102 E. Fifth St., hosts Pints & Pages: A Silent Book Club, from 6 to 8 p.m. every Tuesday in June and July. Take your favorite book, knitting project or any solo activity, grab a pint and head upstairs for quiet time with others in the community.

Rock like a Beatle

TheWannaBeatles will have a concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at the Alhambra Theatre, 507 S. Main St. This Beatles tribute band from Nashville performs classic hits while also entertaining the audience with “on-stage antics, audience involvement and award-winning entertainment.” Tickets, available online, are $50 for adults and $38 for students and members of the military.

Flex your brain

The Dyslexia Association of the Pennyrile will host its popular Trivia Night on Friday, June 14, at the Memorial Building, 1202 S. Virginia St. Cost is $35 a person, and teams may be comprised of up to 10 players. The price includes dinner. The winning team will be awarded $1,000. Call Vicky Jones at 270-885-5804 or 270-836-4804 to sign up. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the questions begin at 6:30 p.m.

Join the goats

Balance Hoptown Yoga Studio, 114 Navajo Trail, will have a one-hour yoga session with baby goats in the mix. It begins at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 15. The cost is $35. Organizers promise there will be no messes since the goats are all diapered. “Throughout the class the goats will run and play while using you to jump, stand and spin off,” the yoga studio says. “Since the class is for beginners and goes at a leisurely pace, anyone can do goat yoga.” Call 270-348-0418 to sign up.

See the Hoppers

The Hoptown Hoppers have a home game against the Paducah Chiefs at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 23, at the Hopkinsville High School baseball field on Koffman Drive. Follow the team all summer and learn about the players on the Hoppers website

Go to the dogs

Dog Days of Summer, an event to raise money and awareness for the Christian County Animal Shelter, is planned from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday, June 29, at Casey Jones Distillery, 2815 Witty Lane. Food trucks, special cocktails and free, live music are among the offerings.
