3 council members tapped for leadership roles

Council members Terry Parker, Travis Martin and Phillip Brooks were selected at a Committee of the Whole meeting Thursday.

Hopkinsville City Council voted Thursday to appoint three members who will serve in leadership positions during the council’s meetings in 2021.

Terry Parker, of Ward 7, will serve as chair and Travis Martin, of Ward 6, will be vice chair at Committee of the Whole sessions. The Committee of the Whole meets on the third Thursday of each month to hear reports from city employees and consider business that will be approved at council meetings, which are on the first and third Tuesdays of the month.

The members selected Phillip Brooks, Ward 12, to serve as the council’s presiding officer. He will conduct meetings in the mayor’s absence. Previously, this position was known as the mayor pro-tem.
